In myths and stories, the magerath were said to be the first inhabitants of Earth, a race who occupied it long before humans. They built Gateways, transports from their world to Earth, in areas of strong spiritual energy, 'leylines.' As the humans came to exist, the magerath blended into society. In later centuries the humans encountered the magerath. Witch burnings and executions ensued.
As their presence faded, the magerath fled or blended, and the leaders of the killings and revolts ceased their crusades, the presence of the magerath was all but forgotten, save in legends and myths.
Centuries later, after countless advancements and losses, humanity began to colonize space and terraform planets they deemed suitable for their growing population, a "Great Migration." Just when humanity had seen a bit of peace they made contact with a familiar race: the magerath, prideful and exotic people of the planet Xel Kyan. The Earthlings saw this as an opportunity: a chance to recreate themselves. To redeem their Earth from the dust ball it had become and reverse their mistakes. The magerath had appeared from their home to avenge their ancestors in the form of nothing short of a crusade.
War ignited. People chose sides, alliances. This continued for fifteen years.
Nautilus, a military corporation of growing proportions, ceased the conflicts. A lull of peace fell upon the universe--but not for all. In this period, the Republic, an interstellar government, and the Alliance, a ring of opposed factions and rebels, was born.
Present day, 2385: Earth is all but a wasteland. New planets and races have been discovered. Humans are not the only intelligent race. Bitterness still lies between the humans and magerath. The half-bloods remain to be persecuted against, though with subtler means. Corruption lies within the Republic. The Alliance is becoming more apparent. The supernatural and unexplainable entwines with life. The Mageran Empire faces conflict within its Houses and violence veiled behind a guise of secrecy.
The horizons have expanded. Those that live scratch out an existence however they can, rich, poor, middle-classed. But most of all-- they live.

.:: Core Worlds The central planets are a wonderland of peace and technology. All citizens have enough to eat. They work in glistening skyscrapers and live in highrise apartment buildings. The grass is green and the skies are clear and everything and anything is perfect.
That’s if you believe the propaganda. To be fair, the said propaganda is mostly true. Contrary to what the government wishes all to believe, not everyone and everything in the Core is perfect, Mars specifically. Though they are likely better schooled, better clothed, better "protected", many hate their lives.
Most on the Core are content, they lead comfortable lives, have time and leisure. They have the best education and access to medicine and health care. They found the utopia that humanity has been searching for since the beginning, and worked endlessly to achieve--even if it is at the price of their own freedom and humanity. These same people are oblivious to how the universe really works. Subforums: Xel Kyan,

.:: Outer Rim Near enough to the Core to hold business with it, the Outer planets are for those that wish to get away from it all or discuss and hold business without the watchful eyes of the Republic upon them. It's difficult for the government to overreach themselves, and as a result, they can't always tell what's happening.
The citizens here might be for the Republic or against it or wish nothing more than to be left alone. The close proximity of the Badlands result in frequent criminals in the lesser-governed planets.
Elegant skyscrapers and mutli-level business buildings are as common as the sun-deprived slums beneath them. In the markets and towns, you can buy anything from a fresh squeezed glass of lemonade to a bodyguard, a fellow being, or an exotic pet that will sever a limb at the slightest hint of eye contact. .:: Badlands Life can prove to be difficult out here. People either scratch out a living or die with a fleeting vision of their dreams and a curse on their lips. The worlds in the farthest settled reaches of space are raw and untamed. Comforts of other rims just...aren't here, but damn are the gunfights exciting!
The government has little presence. If it does, it is in the form of an abandoned town, shot-out vessel, or sprawling series of scrap heaps and dumps. This lack of government presence has made places like Genn-Par perfect for criminals, outlaws, and scum, not to say that there cannot be some genuinely good people that live in wild space.
