In myths and stories, the magerath were said to be the first inhabitants of Earth, a race who occupied it long before humans. They built Gateways, transports from their world to Earth, in areas of strong spiritual energy, 'leylines.' As the humans came to exist, the magerath blended into society. In later centuries the humans encountered the magerath. Witch burnings and executions ensued.
As their presence faded, the magerath fled or blended, and the leaders of the killings and revolts ceased their crusades, the presence of the magerath was all but forgotten, save in legends and myths.
Centuries later, after countless advancements and losses, humanity began to colonize space and terraform planets they deemed suitable for their growing population, a "Great Migration." Just when humanity had seen a bit of peace they made contact with a familiar race: the magerath, prideful and exotic people of the planet Xel Kyan. The Earthlings saw this as an opportunity: a chance to recreate themselves. To redeem their Earth from the dust ball it had become and reverse their mistakes. The magerath had appeared from their home to avenge their ancestors in the form of nothing short of a crusade.
War ignited. People chose sides, alliances. This continued for fifteen years.
Nautilus, a military corporation of growing proportions, ceased the conflicts. A lull of peace fell upon the universe--but not for all. In this period, the Republic, an interstellar government, and the Alliance, a ring of opposed factions and rebels, was born.
Present day, 2385: Earth is all but a wasteland. New planets and races have been discovered. Humans are not the only intelligent race. Bitterness still lies between the humans and magerath. The half-bloods remain to be persecuted against, though with subtler means. Corruption lies within the Republic. The Alliance is becoming more apparent. The supernatural and unexplainable entwines with life. The Mageran Empire faces conflict within its Houses and violence veiled behind a guise of secrecy.
The horizons have expanded. Those that live scratch out an existence however they can, rich, poor, middle-classed. But most of all-- they live.

Getting Started
What is all of this?
A roleplay setting best classified as Futuristic Fantasy. A place where anything is possible, both literally and proverbially. Fate and the occult melds with reality, impossible events take place, creatures of myth have been revealed to exist, and races only of legend and speculation have come to be discovered.
Infinite Horizons (IH) is a free, play-by-post roleplaying game. You create your own characters and select every aspect of them as you please. As you begin writing, other "authors" will join in, adding their own characters and helping in developing the plot. Eventually you have a small piece of a story. In short, Infinite Horizons is simply an ongoing collaborative story.
On these forums, you may play a diplomat for the government, a rebel against prejudice and war, a common thief, a marine, a pilot, and much, much more. A creative and friendly community has been composed--you can also be a part of it.
What we offer?
-Original, fully developed setting -Friendly, open-minded community -Nearly limitless character possibilities -An opportunity for writers of all levels and skills to participate -Automated shops and currency system

Joining
Joining the community? awesome. We're certain you'll more than enjoy your time here. But before you can register, or even get started, there are a few things to note:
You must register as a main account first. The name of this account can be anything, but numbers and symbols are discouraged. This main account is used in the OoC (out of character) forums.
After you have a main account, when you are ready to create a character, register an entirely new account with your character's name. When the character account, as it will be known from here on, is registered, mention what main account it belongs to in your signature. Each character is hosted on a different account.
This cuts back on confusion and makes for an easy way to see what characters are in which roleplay thread. Can't be in two places at once.
By joining these forums you also agree to respect that the content within is copyrighted to IH herself, and should under no circumstances be lifted from this board; roleplays and other content is copyrighted to the valued players and members. Anything that violates this can quickly get ya banned. So, please, just respect the site, its creator, and its members. Thanks.

Main to Character Account Linking
It's required that you link up your character bios/main accounts in your signature as it makes our jobs a little easier and assists your fellow RPers in finding your character's information with ease. For anyone who might not know how to do this, here's some instructions to assist.
First, you'll need either two internet windows or tabs open. In one, open your main account's profile page and select Edit Signature along the left hand side.
Now, in the second window or tab, open your character's bio. Please copy the code in the quote below and paste it into your signature block.
CODE
[URL=character sheet URL]Character's name[/URL]
Where it says Character Name, type in your characters name and remove the extra spaces.
Lastly, go to your character bio and copy the http address and paste it where the words 'character sheet URL' are. Make sure there are no extra spaces between the brackets.
Once this is in place, click on Update my Signature. Repeat this to link any characters to the main account or to link the main account to any characters' signatures.
To link characters to a main account, it would be something like this:

.:: Required Reading
We at Infinite Horizons fully understand that such a large universe can be daunting, possibly overwhelming, to explore. Fortunately, only a small portion is considered "required reading" for those that have just joined this original RPG or plan to soon. The rest is detailed information for those comfortable with the setting-- it should be read, but at your leisure. This is reading that is necessary to understand IH, and to begin your experience, and create your first character. New members should read everything on this list.
* It's better to start off with a small list of basic rules for the forum. Rules * Races, Skills, and Professions are all needed to create your character in the IH universe. *Next, read over the Character Profile Format to get a glimpse as to how your character profile should look. * Read the short explanation of how Credits and the Shop system works on IH at Buying, Selling, Trading, Stealing * For any help along the way, consult the Help and F.A.Q. forum.

Your First Roleplay
Hopefully you've taken the time to register a character account and create a character, and you may be wondering... how do I get started?
The first thing to do is visit the Out of Character forum and introduce yourself. If you'd rather not expose yourself to the entire RPG just yet, that's perfectly reasonable.
First roleplays are typically more effective when they address basic character details. For example:
What are his/her goals? ambitions?
Where did he/she come from?
What was his/her past like?
Finally, it's always beneficial to read-- read the forums, the roleplays, the Compendium, the out of character forums. It can never hurt. Read as much as you can handle, have time for, or can stand. This not only immerses you in the setting, but it may inspire plot, character, or storyline ideas.
