PLOT

In myths and stories, the magerath were said to be the first inhabitants of Earth, a race who occupied it long before humans. They built Gateways, transports from their world to Earth, in areas of strong spiritual energy, 'leylines.' As the humans came to exist, the magerath blended into society. In later centuries the humans encountered the magerath. Witch burnings and executions ensued.

As their presence faded, the magerath fled or blended, and the leaders of the killings and revolts ceased their crusades, the presence of the magerath was all but forgotten, save in legends and myths.

Centuries later, after countless advancements and losses, humanity began to colonize space and terraform planets they deemed suitable for their growing population, a "Great Migration." Just when humanity had seen a bit of peace they made contact with a familiar race: the magerath, prideful and exotic people of the planet Xel Kyan. The Earthlings saw this as an opportunity: a chance to recreate themselves. To redeem their Earth from the dust ball it had become and reverse their mistakes. The magerath had appeared from their home to avenge their ancestors in the form of nothing short of a crusade.

War ignited. People chose sides, alliances. This continued for fifteen years.

Nautilus, a military corporation of growing proportions, ceased the conflicts. A lull of peace fell upon the universe--but not for all. In this period, the Republic, an interstellar government, and the Alliance, a ring of opposed factions and rebels, was born.

Present day, 2385: Earth is all but a wasteland. New planets and races have been discovered. Humans are not the only intelligent race. Bitterness still lies between the humans and magerath. The half-bloods remain to be persecuted against, though with subtler means. Corruption lies within the Republic. The Alliance is becoming more apparent. The supernatural and unexplainable entwines with life. The Mageran Empire faces conflict within its Houses and violence veiled behind a guise of secrecy.

The horizons have expanded. Those that live scratch out an existence however they can, rich, poor, middle-classed. But most of all-- they live.

Forget the past-- save the future.

Infinite Horizons is a play-by-post, free form roleplaying game played within an original setting best defined as Futuristic Fantasy. A place where anything is possible, both literally and proverbially. Fate mixes with life, impossible events take place, creatures of myth have been revealed to exist, and races only of legend have come to be discovered. What is Roleplaying? Infinite Horizons' form of roleplaying, or "interactive writing," allows you to form all aspects of your character. As you start writing, other "authors" will join in, adding their own characters and helping in developing the plot. Here, you write as your character (or characters) interact with other people's characters, and become a part of the community. In short, Infinite Horizons is simply an ongoing, collaborative story. A creative and friendly community has been composed--you can also be a part of it. Who can I message for help? Feel free to message myself, one of the mods, or a plot guide. Any option is familiar with the workings of the IH universe and the rules. How often is IH updated? Daily, weekly, or whenever? IH is usually updated weekly, though at times daily. What do I need to play? Your imagination, a keyboard, and a little patience. That's it. Storyline What is the Republic? Alliance? Neutrals? The Republic is an interstellar political body that established an agreement and ownership of original civilized worlds. It was formed at the end of World War III. The Republic's firm belief is that peace is the greatest achievement society can reach--and has obtained, since the fall of Earth. The intention is honest, though the execution is not. In the belief of a perfect society, it crafted Utopias and spread its influence in the form of propaganda and an ever-watchful eye. People under the Republic's rule and belief are lead to believe that the world around them is perfect and serene, peace is ultimate, and life should be honorable and without sin or crime. The Alliance is a faction directly opposed to the Republic, its ranks being informed members, defectors, turncoats, or otherwise rebellious individuals. They have no particular, unifying traits but a general hatred for the Republic and its ruling methods and its subsidaries. While they are supposedly 'loosely based' in their organization, Alliance members, aka rebels, have been known to gather in living spaces and ships alike. Neutrals are those swayed by neither faction for whatever reason, be it homelessness or apathy, and belong to neither. I have questions about a particular race. Who do I contact? Contact me personally for these sorts of questions, unless you'd merely like something cleared up that is mentioned in the racial profile. I'll be glad to answer. Character Creation What is a Character Account? Main Account? A main account is the username you first registered with. It could also be considered your out of character (or ooc) account. Character accounts are accounts created for a character you have in mind. Keep track of what character accounts belong to your main account by providing links in your signature. How do I make a character? To begin, familiarize yourself with the setting. It's rather simple if you use the links along the sidebar to the left. After that, post an application in the Character Applications page on the forum index following the format provided in the forum. Wait for a staff member to review and make suggestions your character. After you have perhaps tweaked your character a bit, and after your sheet is moved to the Accepted forum, you may start roleplaying. This character sheet is really long-- do I have to use it? It's better to use the default format to assist those reading your profile while in-RP, prior to RP, or for other reasons. It also makes it easier for the Mods, Plot Guides, and myself in overseeing RP and accepting profiles. Can I RP with the same character in multiple threads at the same time, or do I have to leave the thread in order to RP in another? You may only post in one thread at a time with your character. This cuts down, or eliminates, confusion as a whole. What kind of items, weapons, etc. can my character begin with at character creation? This depends on your character's overall wealth. Upon character creation, list items that your character begins with (feel free to browse the store for this) and I will add them to your inventory. What's an inventory? how do I access it? Your inventory is a compiled list of the items all your characters have and have obtained, whether by discovery or buying. You can access it through the store or underneath your post details in a thread you have begun or posted in. How many characters can I have? Four is the current maximum until you prove that you can handle more. Any more than four characters and at least one of them becomes favored over the others. Can my character die? can I kill my character? can someone else? Yes to all the above. Though in the case of killing your own character or someone else's within a thread, it is good to Private Message the participants to arrange something. Roleplaying (RPing) I've never really RPed online before/I'm really lost/help? Roleplaying is like a cooperative, interactive story. That being said, if you have any problems you can always look for help in the OoC/Help forums or Private Message a Mod/Plot Guide or myself. Are posts done in first or third person? Third person is generally accepted and preferred. Do I need to know every aspect of the history and universe to begin? While this helps to further immerse yourself in the universe and its workings, initially, you only need minimal understanding of the universe to begin RPing in it. Where should I start? should I just start posting? No, you should begin by creating a character in the Character Applications forum on the front page of the forum. Once your sheet is completed, submit it and await approval. Once your character sheet is moved to the Accepted Character Profiles forum, you may begin RPing. Okay, so how long should my posts be? A few sentences is the absolute minimum, but many posts are far more than this.
